Abstract

Abstract
The white rot causative agent, Schizophyllum commune Fr., is a crucial decomposer of plant biomass, including lignin a chemical component of wood. This species is one of the most widespread macroscopic fungus and is found all continents, with the exception of Antarctica. In this study, presence/absence data of S. commune in 30 randomly selected 1 km2 digital plots of Yuvacık Watershed forests and environmental data were analysed using chi-square and t-tests and factor analysis. The relationship between the distribution of S. commune and environmental factors was analysed and visualized using geographic layers derived from the Digital Elevation Model (DEM). Basidiocarps of S. commune were detected on the tree branches of broad-leaved trees in all plots, except two plots. This species well grows at temperatures of 20 °C and above and humidity of 60-70%. In addition, it prefers elevations of 800 metres or higher and slopes of 20% or more. Factor analysis and chi-square tests suggest three main categories-climatic factors, habitat factors, and topographic factors-environmental conditions affecting its distribution in the research area. It was determined that the most effective factor in the distribution of this species in the study area is temperature, which is one of the climatic factors.
