Rewiever Process

The Journal of Atmosphere and Climate - ATİK, double-blind peer review is applied, where rewievers and authors do not see each other's names.
The editor-in-chief does not allow conflicts of interest between authors, editors and rewievers. He/she has full authority to appoint rewievers. He/she may also share this authority with assistant editors.
Rewievers' evaluations must be objective. During the rewiever process, rewievers are expected to make their evaluations by taking the following into consideration:
Does the article contain new and important information?
Does the abstract clearly and properly describe the content of the article?
Is the method defined in a complete and understandable way?
Are the comments and conclusions proven by the findings?
Are sufficient references given to other studies in the field?
Is the language quality sufficient?

Rewievers can make the following decisions after their evaluations:
Major changes are required in the article (Major Revision).
A small number of corrections are required in the article (Minor Revision).
The article is not suitable for publication (Reject).
The article can be published as it is (Accept).

Invitation to Rewievers
The response period to the invitation sent to the rewiever to make an evaluation is 7 days, and the period given to the rewievers who accept the invitation to make an evaluation is 15 days.
The 15-day period in which the rewiever will evaluate the publication begins with the acceptance and approval of the invitation.
If the rewiever cannot evaluate the study within the specified period, an additional 7 days are given. If the rewiever does not evaluate the article within this period, a new rewiever is invited by the editor.
Rewiever selections are made according to the subject of the article from the journal rewiever list or the dergipark system. For this purpose, rewievers who are at least doctoral level and who have conducted studies related to the subject of the journal are scanned on academic search sites and invitations are sent.

Rewiever Evaluation Method
Rewievers are expected to evaluate only studies in their own subject areas in line with the publication principles.
Rewievers are expected to detail their negative opinions and explain their reasons.
Rewievers who reject the article are expected to make detailed explanations that will guide the author.
The rewiever can use the "track changes" feature on the article file to detail the opinions expressed in the evaluation form.

Evaluation of the Status of the Article
If two different rewievers give an opinion on the article as "Suitable for Publication", the article will be published in the journal.
If two different rewievers give an opinion on the article as "Not Suitable for Publication", the article will be rejected.
If one rewiever accepts and the other requests major or minor corrections, the work is returned to the author and the necessary changes are requested within a certain period of time.
The work that has been changed and requested to be reviewed by the rewiever is sent to the rewiever again by the editor. The rewiever also fills out the evaluation form again at this stage. If the rewiever's decision is positive, the article is eligible for publication in the journal. If the rewiever's decision is negative, the following item is applied.
If one of the rewievers gives a positive opinion and the other gives a negative opinion during the evaluation process, the article is sent to a third rewiever. This rewiever's opinion determines whether the article will be published or not.

Other Matters
Rewievers can contact the editor via the DergiPark messages section for further guidance or to convey their concerns about any violations. The correspondence here is not visible to the authors.
The data of articles based on field research or data analysis may be requested from the editor by the rewiever in order to properly evaluate the analyses in the article. The journal editor also contacts the author in this regard and forwards the data to the rewiever.
Rewievers should not have any conflict of interest regarding the research, authors and/or research funders. If a conflict of interest is anticipated, the rewiever should contact the editorial board and state a possible conflict of interest.
Rewievers cannot benefit from the data of the articles they review before publication or share this data with others.
Rewievers must ensure that all information regarding submitted articles remains confidential until the article is published and they must report any copyright infringement or plagiarism on the author's part to the editor.
If the rewiever does not feel qualified about the subject of the article or does not seem able to provide timely feedback, he/she should inform the editor of this situation and ask him/her not to be involved in the rewiever process.
During the evaluation process, the editor clearly states to the rewievers that the articles sent for review are the private property of the authors and that this is a privileged communication. Rewievers and editorial board members cannot discuss the articles with other people. Care must be taken to keep the identity of the rewievers confidential. In case of any problems that may occur regarding the rewiever process, the journal should be contacted via the e-mail address ituatik@itu.edu.tr.
