Adana Alparslan Türkeş Science and Technology University Journal of Social Sciences (ATÜSBD) expects all stakeholders to bear ethical responsibilities within the framework of publication ethics. In this context, the journal commits to follow the Code of Conduct and Principles of Transparency and Best Practice prepared by COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics). It is the duty of editors to follow the COPE Guidance for Editors, and the COPE Ethical Guidelines for Peer Reviewers must be followed by the journal's reviewers.

The publication processes implemented in the Adana Alparslan Türkeş Science and Technology University Journal of Social Sciences are fundamental to the development and dissemination of knowledge in an impartial and respected manner. The processes applied directly reflect the quality of the work of authors and the institutions supporting them. Peer-reviewed works are studies that embody and support the scientific method. At this point, it is important that all stakeholders (authors, readers and researchers, publishers, reviewers, and editors) comply with the ethical standards.

Plagiarism

Articles that have undergone preliminary checks are scanned for plagiarism using the iThenticate software. If plagiarism or self-plagiarism is detected, the authors are informed. Editors may subject the article to plagiarism checks at various stages of the evaluation or production process if necessary. High similarity rates may lead to the rejection of a paper before or even after acceptance. Depending on the type of article, this rate is expected to be less than 20%.

Double-Blind Peer Review

After the plagiarism check, suitable articles are evaluated by the editor-in-chief for originality, methodology, the significance of the topic, and compliance with the scope of the journal. The editor ensures that the articles are fairly reviewed in a double-blind peer review process, and if the article complies with the formal criteria, it is submitted to at least two reviewers from either domestic or international institutions. Reviewers may require changes, and once these are made, they can approve the publication.

Ethics Committee Approval Document

For studies submitted to the journal that involve collecting data from humans through surveys, interviews, focus group studies, experiments, etc., and that foresee the use of such data for experimental or other scientific purposes, it is mandatory to obtain an "Ethics Committee Approval Document" from the relevant institution's Ethics Committee for Human Research prior to submission.

Responsibilities of Authors

The responsibility for ensuring that articles comply with scientific and ethical principles rests with the authors. Authors must guarantee that the article is original, has not been published elsewhere, and is not being considered in another language or platform. Copyright laws and agreements must be respected. Copyrighted materials (e.g., graphics, tables, or long quotations) must be used with the necessary permissions and appropriate acknowledgments. The works of other authors or contributors and the sources used must be cited properly and listed correctly in the references section.

Each author listed in a submitted manuscript must have made a direct academic and scientific contribution. The term "author" is defined as a person who has made a significant contribution to the design and conceptualization of the research, data collection, analysis, or interpretation, and to the writing or critical revision of the paper. The other conditions for obtaining authorship include planning, conducting, and/or reviewing the study. Simply providing financial support, collecting data, or overseeing the general supervision of the research team does not confer authorship rights. Everyone listed as an author must meet these criteria, and everyone who meets these criteria can be listed as an author. The order of authors should be based on a mutual agreement, and each author must sign the Copyright Agreement Form, approving the order.

Editor and Reviewer Responsibilities

The editor-in-chief evaluates manuscripts impartially, without regard to the authors' ethnicity, gender, nationality, religious beliefs, or political views. The editor ensures that submitted manuscripts are fairly reviewed under the double-blind peer review system and commits to maintaining confidentiality for all information until the article is published.

The editor-in-chief is responsible for the overall quality of the content and the published works. If necessary, the editor must publish corrections or retractions. Additionally, no conflict of interest is allowed between authors, editors, and reviewers. The editor has full authority over the appointment of reviewers and is responsible for making the final decision on articles to be published.

Reviewers must not have any conflicts of interest with the authors or institutions funding the research. They must provide an unbiased evaluation and keep all information related to the manuscripts confidential. If they detect any copyright infringement or plagiarism, they are required to notify the editor.

A reviewer must inform the editor immediately if they feel they lack the expertise to review the manuscript or are unable to provide a timely review, and they should withdraw from the process.

During the review process, the editor reminds reviewers that the manuscripts submitted for review are the private property of the authors and that the information provided must remain confidential. Reviewers and editorial board members are not allowed to discuss manuscripts with others. The anonymity of the reviewers is important. In some cases, the editor may share the reviewers' evaluations to make the process more efficient.

In studies involving human subjects, written informed consent must be obtained from participants. For minors, individuals under guardianship, or those under guardianship due to mental illness, consent must be obtained from their legal guardians.

If the study is to be conducted in any institution or organization, permission must be obtained from that institution. In studies involving human subjects, the "method" section must state that informed consent was obtained from the participants and that ethics committee approval was obtained from the institution where the study was conducted.

Open Access Policy

The journal is open access, and all content is freely available to readers or the institutions they are affiliated with. Readers are allowed to read, download, copy, search, and link to the full text of journal articles without asking permission from the publisher or author, provided it is not for commercial purposes. This is in line with the BOAI definition of open access.

No fees are charged under any circumstances from authors or their institutions. The Adana Alparslan Türkeş Science and Technology University Journal of Social Sciences does not require any submission or publication fees for the articles submitted.
