Fear of Marriage (Gamophobia) Scale: Validity and Reliability Study

Abstract

The aim of this study was to develop a valid and reliable measurement tool that assesses individuals' fear of marriage with its cognitive, emotional and behavioural dimensions. The scale was tested in a single sample of 477 individuals aged 18-42 years. The three-factor structure formed as a result of exploratory factor analysis (EFA) was tested with confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) and found to be compatible. The scale accounts for 66.59% of the total variance. Reliability analyses indicated that the scale has a high level of internal consistency and discriminative power. Criterion validity was confirmed by determining strong correlations between the developed scale and the 'Marriage Anxiety Scale'. Consequently, a valid and reliable measurement tool consisting of 23 items and 3 dimensions was developed to measure fear of marriage. In the scale, items focused on reaction and avoidance constitute the behavioural dimension, items focused on fear and anxiety constitute the emotional dimension, and items focused on thoughts and beliefs constitute the cognitive dimension.

Evlilik Korkusu (Gamofobi) Ölçeği: Geçerlik ve Güvenirlik Çalışması

Abstract

Bu çalışmada bireylerin evlilik korkusunu bilişsel, duygusal ve davranışsal boyutlarıyla değerlendiren geçerli ve güvenilir bir ölçüm aracının geliştirilmesi amaçlanmıştır. Ölçek, 18-42 yaş arasında 477 kişiden oluşan bekar bir örneklemde test edilmiştir. Açımlayıcı faktör analizi (AFA) sonucunda oluşan üç faktörlü yapı doğrulayıcı faktör analizi (DFA) ile test edilmiş ve uyumlu bulunmuştur. Ölçek toplam varyansın %66,59’unu açıklamaktadır. Güvenilirlik analizleri ölçeğin yüksek düzeyde iç tutarlılığa ve ayırt ediciliğe sahip olduğunu göstermiştir. Geliştirilen ölçek ile "Evlilik Kaygısı Ölçeği" arasında güçlü korelasyonlar tespit edilerek ölçüt geçerliği doğrulanmıştır. Sonuç olarak, evlilik korkusunu ölçülmeye yönelik 23 madde ve 3 boyuttan oluşan geçerli ve güvenilir bir ölçme aracı geliştirilmiştir. Ölçekte; tepki ve kaçınma odaklı maddeler davranışsal, korku ve kaygı odaklı maddeler duygusal, düşünce ve inanç odaklı maddeler ise bilişsel boyutu oluşturmaktadır.
