Çeviribilim Alanında Yeni Açılımlar: Ekoçeviri Alanında Bir Model Önerisi ve Örnek Bir Çalışma

Abstract

İnsanmerkezci düşüncenin yıkıcı bir tezahürü olan iklim krizi, insan kaynaklı çevresel yıkıma karşı koymak için disiplinler arası çabaları harekete geçirmiştir. Çeviribilim de bu çabalara kayıtsız kalmamıştır. Bu bağlamda insan ve doğa arasındaki ilişkiyi çeviri temelinde ele alan ekoçeviri, doğa ve hayvanlara dair unsurların temsiline aracılık etme ve çeviri nosyonunu insandışı unsurları da kapsayacak şekilde genişletme vizyonuyla posthümanist, eleştirel bir yaklaşım sunmaktadır. Çalışmamız, soyut kuramsal tartışmaların faydasını göz ardı etmeden, öğrenciler ve araştırmacıların ekoçeviri alanında inceleme yapmalarını kolaylaştıracak somut unsurların paylaşıldığı bir model önerisinde bulunmaktadır. Metin analizi ile görseller, kapak, önsöz gibi öğeleri içeren yan metin analizinden oluşan ve ‘hayvanları özne olarak inşa etmek’, ‘sınırları aşmak’, ‘türlerarası aracılık’ başlıkları altında ekomerkezci unsurların tespiti ve aktarılmasını hedefleyen model, özellikle alanyazında ihmal edilen insandışı hayvanların temsili üzerinden şekillendirilmiştir. Antroposen çağının getirdiği sorunlarla mücadele edebilmek için çeviribilim bölümlerinin ekoçeviri alanında uygulamaları derslere ve araştırmalara entegre etmeleri son derece önem taşımaktadır. İnsanmerkezci/ekomerkezci yaklaşımları ayırt edebilme, ekomerkezci değerleri çeviride kayba uğramadan erek kültüre aktarabilme, insanmerkezci yaklaşımları aktivist bir duruşla ikame edebilme gibi becerilerle donatılacak çeviribilim öğrencileri ve araştırmacılar bu disiplinleri aşan mücadelenin dikkate değer bir parçası olacaklardır. Önerdiğimiz model bu çabayı kolaylaştırmayı hedeflemektedir. Modelin uygulaması ise Greta and the Giants adlı çocuk kitabı üzerinden yapılmıştır. Genç iklim aktivisti Greta Thunberg’den ilham alınarak yazılan ve yoğun ekomerkezci unsurlar barındıran kitabın işlediği konu, karakterler, kurgu, söz sanatları, görseller, kelime seçimleri, metaforlar, zamir kullanımı gibi hem içerik hem de biçime dair unsurlar bu makalede incelenmiş ve kitabın Türkçe çevirisi Greta Devlere Karşı’nın da eserin asıl amacından sapmadığı hatta çevirmenin seçimleriyle metnin ekomerkezci duruşunun daha da güçlendiği görülmüştür.

New Initiatives in Translation: A Proposal for a Model and a Case Study in Ecotranslation

Abstract

The climate crisis, a destructive consequence of anthropocentric thinking, has spurred interdisciplinary efforts to counter human-induced environmental destruction. To these efforts, translation studies has not remained indifferent. In this context, eco-translation, which deals with the relationship between humans and nature through translation, offers a posthumanist, critical approach with the vision of mediating the representation of nature and nonhuman animals, expanding the notion of translation to include non-human agents. While theoretical discussions are valuable, our study presents a model with concrete elements to facilitate the exploration of eco-translation by students and researchers. The model, which consists of a textual analysis and a paratextual analysis that includes elements such as visuals, cover, preface, etc., aims to identify and convey ecocentric elements under the headings of "Constructing Animals as Subjects, Crossing Boundaries, Cross-species Agency", and is particularly concerned with the representation of non-human animals, which is largely neglected in the literature. To address the challenges of the Anthropocene, it is of utmost importance for translation departments to integrate ecolinguistic practices into their courses and research agendas. Translation studies students and researchers equipped with skills such as distinguishing between anthropocentric/ecocentric approaches, transferring ecocentric values to the target culture without loss through translation, and replacing anthropocentric approaches with an activist stance will be a remarkable asset in this transdisciplinary struggle. Our model aims to support such engagement. The model is applied to the children's book Greta and the Giants. Inspired by the young climate activist Greta Thunberg and containing intense ecocentric elements, the book's themes, characters, fiction, rhetoric, visuals, word choices, metaphors, use of pronouns, etc. were analyzed and it was found that the Turkish translation of the book, Greta Devlere Karşı, did not deviate from the original purpose of the book and that the translator's choices further strengthened the ecocentric stance of the text.
