Abstract
This study investigates students' code-switching behavior to English during Turkish lessons and its effect on language learning processes. A mixed-methods approach was employed, combining quantitative and qualitative data to explore in which language skills students switch to English and the situations prompting this switch. The findings indicate that students frequently turn to English when encountering comprehension difficulties or challenges with Turkish grammar.
Participants noted that code-switching helps ease understanding in the short term, particularly during moments of struggle in the classroom. However, some expressed concerns that this behavior might hinder their ability to fully master Turkish in the long term. Code-switching was especially common during speaking activities, suggesting that students rely on English when they feel less confident in their Turkish language skills.
The study highlights the need for a balanced approach to code-switching in language instruction. While it offers immediate benefits, its long-term impact on fluency and mastery may be less favorable. Teachers should be mindful of how often students engage in this strategy and its potential implications for their overall language proficiency.

Abstract
Bu çalışma, Türkçe derslerinde öğrencilerin İngilizceye geçiş yapma davranışlarını ve bu davranışın dil öğrenme süreçlerine etkilerini incelemektedir. Araştırmada hem nicel hem de nitel yöntemler kullanılarak, öğrencilerin hangi dil becerilerinde ve hangi durumlarda İngilizceye geçtikleri ve bu geçişin öğrenme sürecine nasıl bir katkı sağladığı ele alınmıştır. Anket ve görüşmelerden elde edilen bulgular, öğrencilerin özellikle anlam belirsizliği ve dilbilgisi zorluklarıyla karşılaştıklarında İngilizceye başvurma eğiliminde olduklarını ortaya koymaktadır.
Katılımcılar, İngilizceye geçişin kısa vadede anlamayı kolaylaştırdığını ve derslerde zorluk yaşadıkları anlarda faydalı olduğunu belirtmişlerdir. Ancak, uzun vadede bu davranışın Türkçeye tam hakim olma sürecini zorlaştırabileceği görüşü dile getirilmiştir. Özellikle konuşma becerilerinde İngilizceye geçişin daha sık yaşandığı gözlemlenmiştir. Bu bulgular, dil öğretiminde kod değiştirmenin dikkatli bir şekilde ele alınması gerektiğini, öğrencilerin bu stratejiyi kısa vadede kullanmalarının uzun vadeli dil hakimiyetini olumsuz etkileyebileceğini göstermektedir.
Çalışma, dil öğrenme süreçlerinde kod değiştirmenin hem avantajlarını hem de potansiyel dezavantajlarını gözler önüne sererek, öğretmenlerin bu stratejiye karşı bilinçli olmaları gerektiğini vurgulamaktadır.
