The Effect of Acceptance And Commitment Therapy Oriented Psycho-Education Program on Psychological Flexibility, Psychological Resilience And Depressive Symptom Levels of Adolescents

Abstract

Intervention programs implemented in schools play a crucial role in supporting the mental well-being of children and teenagers. Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is increasingly finding its place within school settings. This study aimed to explore the impact of an ACT-based psychoeducational program on adolescents' psychological flexibility, resilience, and depressive symptoms within the context of secondary education. The study involved adolescents aged 15 to 17, attending either 10th or 11th grade. Employing a 2x3 split-plot experimental design, the research integrated pre-test, post-test, follow-up test, and control group components. Participants were randomly assigned to either the experimental (n=14) or control (n=14) groups. After the intervention program, both groups underwent a post-test, followed by a subsequent follow-up test five weeks later. Data analysis was conducted using SPSS-26 software. The statistical significance of the measurements and group differences was assessed through a two-factor analysis of variance (ANOVA) technique for repeated measures. The findings indicated that the ACT-based psychoeducational program significantly enhanced psychological flexibility and decreased depressive symptoms, with sustained effects observed during the follow-up period. However, the observed change in psychological resilience did not reach statistical significance. These outcomes were thoroughly discussed within the context of existing literature, and recommendations were proposed accordingly.

Kabul ve Kararlılık Terapisi Yönelimli Psiko-Eğitim Programının Ergenlerin Psikolojik Esneklik, Psikolojik Sağlamlık ve Depresif Belirti Düzeylerine Etkisi

Abstract

Okul temelli önleyici müdahale programları çocuk ve ergenklere psikolojik yardım süreçlerinin önemli bir parçasıdır. Önleyici çalışmalar kapsamında Kabul ve Kararlılık Terapisi (ACT) uygulamalalarının okullardaki yaygınlığı artmaktadır. Mevcut çalışmada ACT temelli piskoeğitim programının lise düzeyinde eğitime devam eden ergenlerin psikolojik esneklik, psikolojik sağlamlık ve depresif belirti düzeylerine etkisi incelenmiştir. Çalışmanın örneklemini 15-17 yaş aralığında 10 ve 11. Sınıf eğitime devam eden ergenler oluşturmaktadır. Araştırmada, 2x3'lük split-plot/deneysel desen kullanarak öntest, sontest ve izleme testleriyle birlikte kontrol grubuyla karşılaştırmalı bir çalışma yapılmıştır. Katılımcılar, rastgele olarak deney (n=14) ve kontrol (n=14) gruplarına atanmıştır. Müdahale programının sonunda, deney ve kontrol gruplarına sontest uygulanmış, ardından 5 hafta sonra izleme testi yapılmıştır. Toplanan veriler, SPSS-26 yazılımıyla analiz edilmiştir. Analizlerde, ölçümler arasında ve gruplar arasında istatistiksel olarak anlamlı farklılıkların olup olmadığı tekrarlı ölçümler için iki faktörlü varyans analizi (ANOVA) kullanılarak incelenmiştir. Elde edilen bulgulara göre, ACT odaklı psiko-eğitim programının psikolojik esneklik düzeyini artırmakta ve depresif belirtileri azaltmakta istatistiksel olarak etkili olduğu, bu etkinin izleyen süreçte devam ettiği görülmüştür. Ancak, psikolojik sağlamlık düzeyindeki değişimin istatistiksel olarak anlamlı olmadığı saptanmıştır. Bu bulgular, literatür ışığında tartışılmış ve bazı öneriler sunulmuştur.
