Review Process

1. Submission and Initial Evaluation
Manuscripts must be submitted via the EMS Online Manuscript Management System (DergiPark). Submissions via email are not accepted. Only manuscripts that have been approved by all authors, and have not been published or submitted elsewhere, will be considered.

The Editor-in-Chief conducts the initial screening to assess the manuscript's relevance to the journal’s scope, originality, scientific merit, and methodological soundness. A plagiarism check is also performed at this stage. Manuscripts that do not meet these criteria are rejected without peer review. EMS operates under a single-blind peer review system.

2. Editorial Board Evaluation
Manuscripts that pass the initial screening are assigned by the Editor-in-Chief to a suitable member of the Editorial Board. The assigned editor evaluates the manuscript’s contribution to the field, scientific quality, language clarity, and relevance.

The editor then proposes at least three qualified peer reviewers and manages the peer review process.

3. Peer Review Process (Single-Blind Review)
EMS uses a single-blind peer review system: the reviewers are aware of the authors’ identities, but the authors do not know who the reviewers are. Each manuscript is sent to at least three reviewers, at least two of whom are independent experts from outside the journal.

Reviewers assess the manuscript’s scientific merit, methodological accuracy, and originality. Based on the reviewers’ reports, the decision may be: accept, minor revision, major revision, or reject.

4. Author Revisions
Authors are required to revise their manuscripts according to the reviewers’ and editor’s feedback. All changes must be clearly marked in the revised manuscript, and a detailed response letter addressing each reviewer’s comment must be submitted.

The revised version is evaluated by the assigned Editorial Board member. If major revisions were requested, the manuscript may be re-evaluated by the reviewers.

5. Final Editorial Review and Decision
Once the editorial board member confirms that revisions are complete, the manuscript is forwarded to the Editor-in-Chief for the final decision. At EMS, the Editor-in-Chief holds sole responsibility for the final decision, which is made independently of the publisher, based on the editorial and reviewer evaluations.

The Editor-in-Chief ensures that decisions are consistent with EMS’s ethical standards and are guided by objectivity, fairness, and scientific integrity. Accepted manuscripts undergo a final check for language and clarity before publication.

6. Typesetting and Publication
Manuscripts accepted for publication proceed to the typesetting and layout stage and are formatted in accordance with EMS’s publication standards before being published.
