ASSESSMENT OF CLASSROOM ERGONOMIC CONDITIONS IN THE DEPARTMENT OF ARCHITECTURE THROUGH STUDENT PERCEPTIONS: A CASE STUDY OF THREE UNIVERSITIES

Abstract
Ergonomics is a scientific field focused on improving human well-being and offers advantages in work, education, and living settings. In educational contexts, ergonomics primarily aims to maximize the efficiency and effectiveness of teachers, students, and learning environments. Nonetheless, many tasks are performed without recognizing ergonomic risks, which can result in musculoskeletal disorders. Increasing awareness of these risks, identifying them, and reducing their impact can be achieved at a much lower cost than the expenses related to corrective measures. This study examines the awareness levels of Architecture Department students regarding classroom ergonomics and identifies areas that require enhancement. The study gathered data from 254 volunteer students from three universities using surveys. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-tests, and analysis of variance (ANOVA). While students generally had positive views about classroom conditions and the physical materials used, it was found that improvements are necessary for environmental factors such as noise and odors, especially regarding student seating. A common problem among students is the experience of various health issues after class, mainly back, waist, neck, and head pain. Bingöl University was identified as having the highest level of health effects, lowest level of classroom conditions, and highest level of physical materials used in classrooms. The findings of this study are anticipated to aid in enhancing classroom ergonomics for architecture students.

Abstract
Ergonomi, öncelikli olarak insanın yaşam kalitesini artırmayı amaçlayan çalışma, eğitim-öğretim ve yaşam alanlarında fayda sağlanan bir bilim dalıdır. Eğitim-öğretim faaliyetlerinde ergonominin temel işlevi; öğretici, öğrenci ve öğrenme ortamından yüksek düzeyde verim elde edilmesini sağlamaktır. Ancak çoğu zaman ergonomik tehlikelerin farkında olunmadan çalışmalar sürdürülmektedir. Bu tür tehlikelere maruz kalınması, kas-iskelet sistemi hastalıklarına yol açabilmektedir. Ergonomik tehlikeler hakkında farkındalık kazanmak, bu tehlikeleri tanımlamak ve etkilerini azaltmak, iyileştirme maliyetleriyle karşılaştırıldığında son derece düşük bir maliyetle gerçekleştirilebilmektedir. Bu çalışmada, Mimarlık Bölümü öğrencilerinin sınıf ergonomisine yönelik farkındalık düzeylerinin değerlendirilmesine ve gelişime açık yönlerin belirlenmesine odaklanılmıştır. Çalışma kapsamında üç üniversiteden gönüllü 254 öğrenciden anket metodu ile veriler toplanmıştır. Elde edilen veriler tanımlayıcı istatistiksel analiz, t-testi ve Varyans Analizi (ANOVA) ile değerlendirilmiştir. Öğrenciler, sınıf ergonomisi kapsamında sınıf koşulları ve sınıfta kullanılan fiziksel materyaller konusunda genel olumlu görüş bildirse de gürültü, koku gibi çevresel kaynaklı unsurlara ve özellikle öğrenci koltuklarına yönelik iyileştirmelerin yapılmasına ihtiyaç olduğu belirlenmiştir. Bununla birlikte, öğrenciler arasında yaygın bir şekilde ders sonrası sırt, bel, boyun, baş ağrısı başta olmak üzere çeşitlik sağlık etkilerini yaşamaktadır. Sağlık etkilerinin en yüksek düzeyde, sınıf koşullarının en düşük düzeyde, sınıfta kullanılan fiziksel materyallerin en yüksek düzeyde olduğu üniversite Bingöl Üniversitesi olmuştur. Çalışmada sunulan bulguların mimarlık bölümü öğrencilerinin sınıf ergonomisinin iyileştirilmesine katkı sağlayacağı düşünülmektedir.
