Ethical Principles and Publication Policy

The Turkish Journal of Film Studies has been prepared in accordance with ethical principles and publication policies, taking into consideration the guidelines and policies published by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ).

ETHICS COMMITTEE APPROVAL
Our journal requires that all studies in scientific fields requiring ethical committee approval have obtained the relevant ethical committee decision. In this context, authors must include the date and number of the Ethics Committee approval in the “Sample and Method/Materials and Methods” section. In case reports, information regarding the informed consent form must be included in the article.
In line with the regulations implemented by Ulakbim TR Index since 2020, studies without ethical committee approval are not considered for publication in our journal.

Studies Requiring Ethical Committee Approval
Studies requiring ethical committee approval in our journal include the following:
• All research conducted using qualitative or quantitative approaches that involve collecting data from participants through methods such as surveys, interviews, focus group studies, observations, experiments, and interviews,
• Studies in which humans and animals (including materials or data) are used for experimental or other scientific purposes,
• Clinical research conducted on humans,
• Scientific research conducted on animals,
• Retrospective studies within the framework of the Personal Data Protection Law.
For such studies to be considered for evaluation, the relevant ethical committee approvals must have been obtained and these approvals must be clearly stated in the article text.

Relationships with the Journal Owner and Publisher
The relationship between the editor and the publisher is based on the principle of editorial independence. According to the written agreement between the editor and the publisher, all decisions made by the editor are independent of the publisher and journal owner.

Corrections, Retractions, and Expressions of Concern
Editors may consider publishing corrections if minor errors are identified in the published article that do not affect the findings, interpretations, or conclusions. Editors should consider retracting the article if there are major errors/violations that invalidate the findings and conclusions. COPE principles are taken into account regarding corrections, retractions, or expressions of concern.

Protection of Intellectual Property Rights
Our journal is responsible for protecting the intellectual property rights of all published articles and defending the rights of the journal and authors in the event of possible infringements.

Protection of Participants' Personal Data
All personal data submitted to our journal is protected in accordance with legal regulations and ethical rules.

Use of Artificial Intelligence
The use of artificial intelligence is acceptable in processes that do not affect the originality of the article, such as literature review or language control, in studies submitted to our journal. However, the use of artificial intelligence must be carried out within the framework of ethical rules and must not be used for unethical purposes such as fabricating data or manipulation.
For studies involving the use of artificial intelligence, it is mandatory to inform our journal of this situation during the article submission stage. All responsibility for the use of artificial intelligence lies with the authors themselves.

Special Issue Publication Policy
Upon the request of the Editorial Board of our journal, a special issue may be published once a year. Articles submitted for inclusion in the special issue are first subject to editorial pre-review. They are then reviewed for compliance with the journal's writing rules and similarity scanning is performed to prevent plagiarism. After these stages, they are subjected to a peer review process using a double-blind model.

Plagiarism Action Plan and Journal Measures
The journal respects intellectual property and aims to protect and encourage the original work of its authors. Plagiarized articles are contrary to quality, research, and innovation standards. Therefore, all authors submitting articles to the journal are expected to adhere to ethical standards and avoid plagiarism in any form. If an author is suspected of plagiarism in a submitted or published article, the work is first reviewed by the journal's Ethics Editor. The work is then reviewed by the Editorial Board. The journal will then contact the author(s) to request a response within two weeks. If the journal does not receive a response from the author within the specified time, it will contact the author's university to request an investigation of the allegation.

The journal will take the following serious measures against published articles found to contain plagiarism:
1. The journal will immediately contact the university to which the author(s) are affiliated to take definitive action against the author in question.
2. The journal will remove the PDF copy of the published article from its website and disable all links to the full text of the article. The phrase “Plagiarized Article” will be added to the title of the published article.
3. The journal will deactivate the author's account and reject all future submissions from the author for a period of three years.

Articles submitted for publication in the Turkish Film Research Journal are subject to double-blind peer review by at least two reviewers. Additionally, the iThenticate tool is used to confirm that the articles have not been previously published and do not contain plagiarism.

Complaints
In the event of any unethical behavior or situations related to editors, reviewers, or authors, or any unethical issues arising during the review process, early view, or publication of an article, such incidents must be reported via email to turkishjournaloffilmstudies@gmail.com.
