Abstract
Bu çalışmanın amacı Türkiye’de son yıllarda ciddi artış gösteren hammadde ve yatırım
malları ithalatının ekonomik büyümeye olan etkisini ve nedensellik ilişkilerini en güncel veriseti
olan 1998:1‐2012:4 dönemi için araştırmaktır. Ağırlıklı olarak Türkiye İstatistik Kurumu (TUİK)
verilerinin kullanıldığı çalışmamızda, ana yöntem olarak Vektör Otoregresif modeli (VAR) ve
Granger Nedensellik testi kullanılmıştır. Yapılan analizler sonucu iki temel sonuç bulunmuştur.
Birincisi, Türkiye’de ithalatın kompozisyonu yıllar içinde çok değişmemiştir. Yapısal olarak,
ithalatımız özellikle hammadde ve yatırım mallarına dayanmaktadır. Öyle ki, bu iki kalemin
toplam ithalattan aldığı pay yaklaşık 85 %‐90 % civarındadır. İkincisi, aramalı ve sermaye malları
ithalatındaki artış ile GSYİH büyümesi arasında çok kuvvetli pozitif bir ilişki bulunmuştur. Bu ilişki
yıllar içinde daha da kuvvetlenmiş ve en güncel olarak 0.9 korelasyon katsayısı seviyelerine
ulaşmıştır. Daha da önemlisi, VAR modeli ve Granger Nedensellik testi sonucu iki ithalat
kaleminin de GSYİH büyümesine neden olduğu ancak tersinin doğru olmadığı saptanmıştır
