Abstract
Makale, halk bilimi disiplininin kent yaşamıyla yeterince uyum sağlayamadığını ve kentsel folklor incelemelerinde eksiklikler bulunduğunu vurgulamaktadır. Kentsel deneyimin analizinde, halk bilimcilerin kenti sadece fiziksel bir mekan olarak algılamasının kentsel folklorun dinamiklerini anlamayı zorlaştırdığı ifade edilmiştir. Kenneth Moore’un antropolojik bakış açısından yola çıkılarak, kentin bir bütün olarak incelenmesi gerektiği, halk biliminin bu sosyal bağlamda derinlemesine bir rol oynadığı belirtilmiştir. Ayrıca, alt kültürlerin, sembollerin ve anlatıların kentsel yaşamda bireyin deneyimini anlamlandırmasında önemli olduğu ve bu anlatıların, insanların kent yaşamındaki deneyimlerini yönetmelerine yönelik stratejiler sunduğu ileri sürülmüştür.
Örnekler, taksi şoförleri veya striptizcilerin anlatıları üzerinden, halk bilimindeki performans ve geleneksellik kavramlarının kentsel ortamlarda nasıl ele alınabileceğini göstermektedir. Kent folklorunun, kırsal folklor unsurlarının şehirdeki kalıcılığıyla sınırlı olmaması gerektiği ve kentsel kültüre özgü yeni folklor biçimlerine yönelik bir bakış açısının gerekliliği üzerinde durulmaktadır. Makale, halk bilimi disiplini için kent yaşamında ortaya çıkan yeni kültürel ifadeleri ve sosyal stratejileri anlamaya yönelik bir çerçeve oluşturmanın önemine işaret etmektedir.
