Abstract

Rüstem Kurtoğlu’s work titled de ki mi A Guide to Avoid Common Spelling Mistakes was published by h2o Kitap in December 2024. As its name suggests, it is an important publication that will guide readers on how to avoid common spelling mistakes in Turkish. The focus of the 320 pages work is briefly as follows: three words (de, ki, mi) and two suffixes (-de, -ki). In his study, Rüstem Kurtoğlu started from conceptual knowledge and based his writing knowledge on conceptual knowledge. Rüstem Kurtoğlu aims to provide a permanent solution to the widespread spelling errors related to these three words (de, ki, mi) and two suffixes (-de and -ki), which have been unstoppable in recent years, especially in social media and in many areas where writing is used. The author draws attention to the fact that ignoring the subject of multi-functional words in Turkish has increased the common spelling errors in the mentioned words and suffixes, and has added four new spelling topics not found in other guide books to his work: “de preposition”, “ki preposition”, “mi preposition”, “mi conjunction”. In the book, each of the topics “de conjunction, de preposition, -de suffix, ki conjunction, ki preposition, -ki suffix, mi conjunction, mi preposition” are explained in detail. The book also includes acknowledgements, preface, introduction and conclusion sections. The improvements made in the book and the contributions of these improvements to the teaching of spelling are also explained. The use of correct spelling examples in the book makes learning easier and encourages the desire to read.
