KOBİ’LERDE SÜRDÜRÜLEBİLİRLİK EKSENLİ UYGULAMALAR ÖNÜNDEKİ BARİYERLERİN ÖNCELİKLENDİRİLMESİ VE ÇÖZÜM ÖNERİLERİ

Year 2025, Volume: 26 Issue: 1, 1 - 22, 22.06.2025

Abstract

PRIORITIZATION OF THE BARRIERS TO SUSTAINABILITY-ORIENTED APPLICATIONS IN SMEs AND SOLUTION SUGGESTIONS

Year 2025, Volume: 26 Issue: 1, 1 - 22, 22.06.2025

Abstract

Businesses operating in the industry are expected to organize their activities in accordance with sustainability. These expectations are concretized by requiring sustainability integration through international and national agreements and legislation for businesses. SMEs operating in Türkiye are among the most affected by these agreements. Sustainability in SMEs attracts attention as a research area that has not yet been adequately addressed in the literature on business and management sciences, and research on this subject is needed to guide practitioners. The research presupposes that, as a first step in ensuring that SMEs organize their activities within the sustainability framework, it is necessary to focus on the factors that cause the slow adoption of sustainability practices. It is aimed to determine the impact strengths of these factors and to provide suggestions for their elimination. In the research, the barriers to adopting sustainable practices in SMEs were identified based on the literature. Afterward, these barriers were prioritized with the Fermatean Fuzzy DEMATEL method. The results show that the most effective barriers are a lack of awareness, followed by a lack of managerial competence. One of the surprising results is that the lack of resources has a relatively average impact on power. Recommendations for eliminating barriers are aimed at actions to be taken by government institutions and NGOs.
