Abstract

Abstract

Purpose: The aim is to present the historical status of the data extracted from the Scopus database, which includes important publications on the subject of surveillance society, with a scientific approach, to explain the productivity in the field through different variables, and to present the leading sources and authors.
Method: The transformation of the surveillance society literature in the field of social sciences was examined through the Scopus database using the bibliometric analysis method, and the impact and productivity of the literature were revealed through different themes. These themes are; productivity levels of authors, countries and journals, keyword usage status, and the authors with the most common citations. The examination was conducted with the VOSwiever program.
Findings: According to the results of the bibliometric analysis conducted on a total of 585 English articles; it was observed that the literature on the subject of surveillance society showed a stable development between 1984-2007 and started to rise as of 2008. It was determined that the USA and the United Kingdom dominated the literature.
Conclusion: As a result, it was observed that the number of studies on surveillance society in the field of social sciences has increased recently and the study titles have diversified.
