Author Guidelines

The Istanbul Gelişim University Journal of Social Sciences is an academic journal that publishes scientific articles in Turkish and English twice a year, in April and October. Articles undergo a rigorous and impartial double-blind peer-review process. 

Ethics

The Istanbul Gelişim University Journal of Social Sciences adheres to the ethical policies of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). You can access these policies here.

Initial Submission

  • For the initial submission, compliance with the Istanbul Gelişim University Journal of Social Sciences formatting guidelines is not required. Authors may use another recognized style such as APA, Chicago, or MLA. Tables, figures, and graphs, as well as the copyright transfer form, may be submitted in the same document or separately. There are no word or page limitations for the initial submission. Articles that pass the preliminary review will be required to conform to the journal’s formatting guidelines.

Article Invitation Following Preliminary Review

  • Authors will be notified via email whether their manuscript is rejected or proceeds to further evaluation after the preliminary review.
  • Articles that proceed to the evaluation process must comply with the journal’s submission policies. 

Formatting Guidelines

Articles submitted to the journal must be written following the APA Journal Article Reporting Standards (JARS) and formatted according to APA style and grammar guidelines. For further information, please contact us.

Articles must be submitted in Word format. The font should be Times New Roman, 11 pt.

Language, Grammar, and Terminology

Articles must adhere to scientific standards in terms of language, grammar, and terminology.

Data and Method Transparency

This policy aims to support transparency in data and methodology for articles published in our journal. Authors are expected to share their data and methods clearly to enhance the understandability and reproducibility of research findings.
For quantitative data, statistical analyses should be archived in a secure repository, and codes should be supplemented with explanations. For qualitative research, data collection and analysis processes should be documented, and the theoretical inferences underlying the findings should be clearly presented.

Research Articles

The abstract must include Purpose, Methods, Findings, Conclusion sections.
The main text must include Introduction, Methods, Results, Discussion, Acknowledgments, Footnotes (Ethics Committee Approval, Authorship Contributions, Conflict of Interest Statement), References, Tables, and Figure Descriptions sections, and should not exceed the specified word count.

Review Articles

The abstract should clearly and concisely present the main points and findings of the review. It should include the study’s purpose, key findings, and conclusions.
The abstract must provide a comprehensive summary of the study to allow readers to quickly grasp its content.

Keywords

Keywords must be descriptive and cover the most essential aspects of the article.
Keywords are used as search terms in databases.
Authors must provide 5-7 keywords that best describe their articles.

Tables, Figures, Appendices

Tables should be kept as simple as possible.
Tables, figures, and graphs must have unique titles and be numbered sequentially in the order they appear in the text.
