1. Purpose and Scope
• Purpose:
As IJISEF, our aim is to ensure the ethical, transparent, and accountable use of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies in scientific research and publication processes; to identify potential risks that researchers, editors, and reviewers may encounter; and to assist them in taking appropriate preventive measures.
• Scope:
This policy applies to all articles, papers, reviews, and other scientific content submitted to the journal. It covers the use of AI tools in all stages of scholarly work, from text generation and data analysis to language editing and visual production. The stages at which AI is employed must be clearly indicated, and the final responsibility lies with the author(s).
2. Definitions
• Artificial Intelligence (AI):
Technological tools that mimic human-like cognitive processes—such as machine learning, natural language processing, and image processing—and are capable of generating new content.
• Generative Artificial Intelligence (GAI):
AI applications capable of producing original outputs such as text, images, audio, video, or code.
3. General Principles
3.1. Transparency
• Sections of the manuscript produced using AI tools must be clearly disclosed in the relevant parts of the text.
• The name, version, and purpose of each AI tool used must be reported in detail.
3.2. Integrity and Diligence
• Content generated by AI must be carefully reviewed by the author(s) for scientific accuracy and objectivity.
• The originality of the article and the scientific contribution of the author(s) must be preserved; AI must not be used to automate the formulation of the main hypothesis, discussion, or conclusions of the research.
3.3. Accountability
• The author(s) bear full responsibility for any errors, biases, or omissions in AI-generated content.
• AI tools cannot be credited as authors; all ethical and legal responsibility shall be assumed by the human researcher(s).
3.4. Fairness, Respect, and Privacy
• During the use of AI, the neutrality, confidentiality, and privacy of data sources must be safeguarded.
• Personal or sensitive data must be anonymized or masked before being processed by AI tools.
4. Use and Reporting of AI Tools
4.1. Responsibilities of Authors
• Disclosure of Use:
At the time of manuscript submission, a detailed explanation of which AI tools were used and at which stages must be provided.
• Content Review:
Text, visuals, or other data generated by AI must be rigorously examined by the author(s), with necessary edits and corrections made.
• Citation and Attribution:
Sources underlying AI-generated content must be properly cited in accordance with current academic standards; all referencing and plagiarism regulations must be observed.
4.2. Responsibilities of Editors and Reviewers
• Transparency Review:
During the peer-review process, the declared use of AI by the author(s) will be examined, and clarifications will be requested if any deficiencies or inconsistencies are identified.
• Ethical Violation Assessment:
In cases of inappropriate AI use (e.g., if the core idea of the manuscript was generated by AI or required disclosures are missing), the submission may be rejected or subject to correction/retraction post-publication.
5. Risk Management and Violation Cases
• Risks:
Scientific errors, bias, or ethical issues such as plagiarism may arise due to limitations of AI training data, model bias, or the risk of “hallucination” (false or misleading output). These must be carefully considered.
• Precautions:
o AI-generated content must be critically reviewed by subject matter experts for accuracy and reliability.
o Failure to disclose AI usage will be treated as an ethical violation and may trigger disciplinary procedures.
• Responsibility:
The authors are solely responsible for the verification and final approval of all AI-generated content. The journal management cannot be held liable for inaccuracies resulting from content generated by the authors through AI tools.
6. Legal and Ethical Compliance
• Legal Framework:
The use of AI must comply with national laws and regulations, including the Law on the Protection of Personal Data (Law No. 6698), the Higher Education Law (Law No. 2547), the Law on Intellectual and Artistic Works (Law No. 5846), and other relevant legal frameworks.
• Ethical Guidelines:
This policy is aligned with national-level documents such as the “Ethical Guidelines on the Use of Artificial Intelligence” and with similar editorial policies.
7. Policy Updates
• Given the rapid evolution of technology and AI applications, this policy will be reviewed periodically and updated as necessary.
• The journal management reserves the right to make additional regulations in line with technological, scientific, and legal developments.
