Abstract

The concept of digital activism is a public activity in which individuals who will carry out social movements and participants who will support these actions use digital media effectively to voice their demands against those in power. This study aims to explore the relationship between digital activism and gender. A bibliometric analysis of 475 studies was employed using performance analysis and visualization techniques to identify emerging trends and developments. CiteSpace and VOSviewer programs were used together to identify classifications, clusters and citation bursts of authors, countries, references and keywords. The objective of this study is to ensure a comprehensive analysis of the existing literature on digital activism and gender with the aim of identifying the key themes, collaborations and trends shaping the research field, revealing trends and providing insights into future directions. The USA is the country with the highest number of publications in this field, followed by the United Kingdom and Canada. The prominent journals in the field are Feminist Media Studies, Women's Studies International Forum and Feminist Theory. The most prolific authors in the field were Fernandez Romero, Nunez Puente and Bartlett. The most commonly used words were “feminism”, “social media”, “feminist activism”, “digital activism”, “activism” and “gender”. As a result of the document co-citation analysis, digital feminist activism, social media activism and anti-racist studies were found to be the main clusters. As a result of the analysis, it is thought that digital activism has brought a breath of fresh air to gender studies and that studies in this direction will continue to increase in the future.

Dijital Aktivizm ve Toplumsal Cinsiyet Odağındaki Araştırmaların Bibliyometrik Analizi: Mevcut Eğilimler ve Gelecek Yönelimler

Year 2025, Volume: 8 Issue: 1, 124 - 147, 31.05.2025
