Marmara University Atatürk Faculty of Education Journal of Educational Sciences is a peer-reviewed journal publishing quantitative, qualitative, or mixed-method research primarily covering all subfields of educational sciences, as well as original reviews, meta-analyses, and book reviews.
Submitted manuscripts are reviewed by at least two referees upon the editor's decision. The editor may refer the manuscript to an additional referee if deemed necessary. Referees can be assigned from the editorial board or selected independently from national or international experts based on the topic of the manuscript.
The final decision regarding manuscript acceptance is at the editor's discretion. The editor does not share information regarding manuscripts (submission status, content, review process status, referees' comments, or conclusions) with anyone other than authors or referees.
Authors who wish to submit manuscripts must first register in the journal system. Authors' personal information and email addresses will not be used for any other purposes.
This journal adopts an open access policy. Libraries are recommended to include this open-access journal among their electronic journals.
During the manuscript upload process, authors agree to transfer certain publication rights to the journal if their manuscript is accepted for publication.
Authors are required to provide (if applicable) an ethical committee approval and confirm the Copyright Transfer Form. All manuscripts undergo plagiarism screening, and the similarity rate must be below 10%. Furthermore, quotations from a single source should not exceed 4%.
Authors may openly publish their studies published in this journal on their personal websites or institutional archives, provided they include a link adhering to librarianship rules.
The journal's publication process consists of three main stages: Preliminary Review, Peer Review, and Preparation for Publication. The Preliminary Review stage takes approximately 2-4 weeks depending on editorial board meetings. At this stage, manuscripts undergo language checks, and Turnitin/iThenticate similarity reports are generated. Manuscripts may be directly rejected or forwarded for peer review. The Peer Review stage typically lasts 6-9 weeks. During this phase, manuscripts are evaluated by subject matter experts. The review period may extend depending on requested corrections from authors and the necessity for a second-round peer review. The Preparation for Publication stage (proofreading, language editing, design, and preparation for printing) averages 2-4 weeks. Overall, the manuscript publication process in the journal takes approximately 4-6 months. Submission of a manuscript for consideration does not guarantee acceptance.
Following the principles developed by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), authors must indicate ethical committee approval for research requiring data collection through quantitative or qualitative methods such as experiments, surveys, scales, interviews, observations, and focus groups. Ethical committee name, approval date, and number must be stated on the manuscript's first or last page and within the methods section, and the document showing ethical committee approval should be uploaded to the system along with the manuscript submission. Additionally, case reports must include information regarding informed consent.
Ethical committee approval is not required for review articles. However, manuscripts not requiring ethical approval should explicitly state this on the manuscript's first or last page and in the methods section.
For research conducted with data collected after January 1, 2020, authors must document compliance with ethical principles when submitting or having submitted manuscripts to our journal. For this purpose:
1. Authors should upload ethical approval documents along with their manuscripts.
2. The manuscript's methods section should include a subsection titled "Ethical Issues," providing information about the ethical approval process.
3. The manuscript's final page should appear as follows:
Ethical Committee Approval
This research was conducted with the permission of the committee decision dated …./…/20XX and numbered …..
4. Retrospective ethical committee approval is not required for manuscripts utilizing research data collected before 2020, derived from master's/doctoral studies (must be stated in the manuscript), or manuscripts submitted to the journal in the previous year, accepted but not yet published.
