Born in 1942 in Oregon, USA, Heath Lowry's adventure in Turkey, which began when he came to the village of Bereketli in Balıkesir with the Peace Volunteers program between 1964-66, turned into a passion. From 1993 to 2011, Heath W. Lowry was the Atatürk Professor of Ottoman and Modern Turkey at Princeton University and a founding member of the history department at Boğaziçi University (1973-1980). He is the author of numerous works on early Ottoman history, his specialty, and has lectured at prestigious universities in Turkey and the United States, including Boğaziçi, Bilkent, Bahçeşehir, and Harvard. He was a founding member of the Institute of Turkish Studies in Washington DC in 1983 and served as its director until 1993. In 2013, after retiring from Princeton University, he joined the staff of Bahçeşehir University and served as Advisor to the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, General Coordinator of Ottoman and Turkish History Practice and Research, and History Graduate Program Coordinator until 2022. Since 2022, he continues to serve as a Member of the Board of Trustees of Bahçeşehir University.
