Gebelikte Tütün Ürünleri Kullanımı ve Farkındalık Araştırması

Year 2025, Volume: 1 Issue: 1, 29 - 42, 14.07.2025

Abstract

Bulgular: Çalışmaya katılan 160 gönüllünün yaş ortalaması 30,2±4,1 olup; %65’i ilk
gebelik, %35’i daha önce doğum yapmıştır.
(p:0,038).
Sonuç: Elde edilen veriler, gebelikte tütün kullanımının yaygınlığını ve bilgi–uygulama
arasındaki farklılıkları göstermekte; anne ve bebek sağlığını korumaya yönelik müdahale
stratejilerinin geliştirilmesinin gerekliliğini ortaya koymaktadır. Bu sonuçlar, toplum sağlığı
açısından önem taşımakta, çalışmalar için temel oluşturur.

Use of Tobacco Products During Pregnancy and Awareness Research

Year 2025, Volume: 1 Issue: 1, 29 - 42, 14.07.2025

Abstract

Aim: The aim of this study is to determine the usage of cigarettes, electronic cigarettes, and
hookah, as well as the exposure to tobacco products during pregnancy, and to assess the
corresponding awareness levels in order to elucidate the associated risk factors and
environmental influences.
Materials and Methods: In this single-center, cross-sectional, multidisciplinary survey
study, pregnant female volunteers with confirmed pregnancies were included. An
anonymous questionnaire, administered either face-to-face or online, collected demographic
information, tobacco use habits, and awareness levels. The data were statistically analyzed
using the SPSS program.
Results: The 160 volunteers had a mean age of 30.2 ± 4.1 years; 65% were experiencing
their first pregnancy, while 35% had previously given birth. Regarding cigarette use, 33.8%
had a smoking history; within this group, half quit after learning of their pregnancy, and 15%
continued smoking. No pregnant women were found to use electronic cigarettes, whereas
two used hookah. The knowledge level concerning the harms of smoking was significantly
higher among active smokers compared to those without a smoking history (p=0.038).
Additionally, the presence of smokers in their surroundings was significantly higher among
those with a smoking history (p=0.001). Furthermore, the rate of receiving advice from
healthcare professionals to quit smoking was significantly lower in women who quit after
learning of their pregnancy compared to those who continued smoking (p=0.038).
Conclusion: The findings demonstrate the prevalence of tobacco use during pregnancy and
the discrepancy between knowledge and practice, underscoring the necessity to develop
intervention strategies to protect maternal and infant health. These results hold significant
public health implications and serve as a foundation for future research.
