The Importance of Computer Assisted Instruction in the Development of Executive Function and Mathematics Skills of Students with Learning Disabilities: A Literature Review

Abstract

This study examines the importance of computer-assisted instruction (CAI) in improving the executive function and mathematics skills of students with learning disabilities. Learning disability is a condition in which individuals have difficulty in basic academic skills and is usually neurologically based. Executive functions include skills such as attention control, problem solving, planning and organisation, and these skills play a critical role in learning processes. Especially in disciplines such as mathematics, the development of executive function skills supports academic success. By providing interactive materials and individualised learning opportunities, CBL enables students to customise their learning processes. Technology-based education concretises abstract mathematical concepts by increasing motivation and addresses different learning styles. For example, for individuals with learning difficulties such as dyslexia, dysgraphia and dyscalculia, personalised teaching methods can increase the success rate. For the development of mathematical skills, CBL methods that support numerical, geometric and problem solving skills can provide students with a deeper understanding. The individualised learning approach provided by CBL is an important support mechanism for students with learning difficulties. Interactive tools and teaching materials increase student motivation and make it easier for teachers to assess students' progress. Research findings show that this method improves both mathematical skills and executive functions in students with learning difficulties. In conclusion, CBL for students with learning disabilities is an innovative approach that makes educational processes more effective and meaningful. In the future, more widespread use of CBL methods will make significant contributions to increase the academic achievement of these students.

Öğrenme Güçlüğü Olan Öğrencilerin Yürütücü İşlev Ve Matematik Becerilerinin Geliştirilmesinde Bilgisayar Destekli Öğretimin Önemi: Bir Literatür İncelemesi

Abstract

Bu çalışma, öğrenme güçlüğü olan öğrencilerin yürütücü işlev ve matematik becerilerinin geliştirilmesinde bilgisayar destekli öğretimin (BDÖ) önemini incelemektedir. Öğrenme güçlüğü, bireylerin temel akademik becerilerde zorluk yaşadığı ve genellikle nörolojik temellere dayanan bir durumdur. Yürütücü işlevler; dikkat kontrolü, problem çözme, planlama ve organizasyon gibi becerileri kapsar ve bu beceriler öğrenme süreçlerinde kritik bir rol oynar. Özellikle matematik gibi disiplinlerde, yürütücü işlev becerilerinin gelişimi akademik başarıyı destekler. BDÖ, etkileşimli materyaller ve bireyselleştirilmiş öğrenme fırsatları sunarak, öğrencilerin öğrenme süreçlerini özelleştirme olanağı sağlar. Teknoloji tabanlı eğitim, motivasyonu artırarak soyut matematik kavramlarını somutlaştırır ve farklı öğrenme stillerine hitap eder. Örneğin, disleksi, disgrafi ve diskalkuli gibi öğrenme güçlükleri olan bireylerde, kişiselleştirilmiş öğretim yöntemleri başarı oranını artırabilir. Matematik becerilerinin gelişimi için sayısal, geometrik ve problem çözme yeteneklerini destekleyen BDÖ yöntemleri, öğrencilere daha derin bir kavrayış kazandırabilir. BDÖ’nün sağladığı bireyselleştirilmiş öğrenme yaklaşımı, öğrenme güçlüğü olan öğrenciler için önemli bir destek mekanizmasıdır. Etkileşimli araçlar ve öğretim materyalleri, öğrenci motivasyonunu artırırken öğretmenlerin öğrencilerin ilerlemesini değerlendirmesini kolaylaştırır. Araştırma bulguları, bu yöntemin öğrenme güçlüğü çeken öğrencilerde hem matematik becerilerini hem de yürütücü işlevlerini geliştirdiğini göstermektedir. Sonuç olarak, öğrenme güçlüğü olan öğrenciler için BDÖ, eğitim süreçlerini daha etkili ve anlamlı hale getiren yenilikçi bir yaklaşımdır. Gelecekte BDÖ yöntemlerinin daha yaygın kullanımı, bu öğrencilerin akademik başarılarını artırmada önemli katkılar sağlayacaktır.
