Abstract

Predictive Power of University Students' Leisure Involvement in Campus Recreation on their Subjective Well-Being during Leisure

Year 2025, Issue: 102, 316 - 326, 22.06.2025

Abstract

The aim of this research is to examine the predictive power of university students' involvement in campus recreation on their subjective well-being during their leisure. Additionally, the study aims to investigate variations in leisure involvement and subjective well-being based on certain variables. In the study conducted within the scope of the quantitative research method, a different relational survey model was used since the leisure interests and subjective well-being of university students participating in campus recreation programs were examined in terms of dependent and independent variables. To achieve these objectives, the "Leisure Involvement Scale" (LIS; Gürbüz, Çimen, & Aydın, 2018) and the "Subjective Well-Being Scale" (SWBS; Uysal, Sarıçam, & Akın, 2014) were administered to 173 students enrolled at Kırıkkale University who volunteered to participate in the research. The data obtained were analyzed using SPSS 26 software correlation, regression, MANOVA, and ANOVA. According to regression analyses, it was found that the sub-dimensions of the LIS "attraction", "centrality", "social bonding", "identity expression" and " identity affirmation" significantly predicted the SWBS. Significant differences were observed based on participation in physical activity variables, while no significant differences were found based on gender. In conclusion, it was determined that university students' participation in campus recreation activities, associated with their preferences and tendencies towards various activities, is related to their subjective well-being, satisfaction, and enjoyment derived from involving in these activities during their leisure.
