Current Status and Temporal Variation of Light Pollution of Astronomy Sites in the World

Year 2025, Volume: 6 Issue: Special Issue: UAK2024 Proceedings of the 23rd National Astronomy Congress, 256 - 258, 01.07.2025

Abstract

The analysis of light pollution trends on astronomy websites is of significant importance for the future of observatories. At the time of writing, there are 2225 registered amateur and professional astronomy sites worldwide. In this study, temporal trends for the period 2002-2023 for all these astronomy sites were analysed using satellite data. The Mann-Kendall (MK) and Sen's Slope (SS) statistics were calculated to ascertain whether the observed increases or decreases in light pollution were statistically significant. The analysis revealed a significant change in 570 observatories, with 182 demonstrating a reduction in light pollution and 388 exhibiting an increase.

Dünyadaki Gözlemevlerinde Işık Kirliliğinin Güncel Durumu ve Zamansal Değişimi

Year 2025, Volume: 6 Issue: Special Issue: UAK2024 Proceedings of the 23rd National Astronomy Congress, 256 - 258, 01.07.2025
