The Turkish Academy of Sciences Journal of Archaeology (TÜBA-AR) is an internationally peer-reviewed journal published by the Turkish Academy of Sciences (TÜBA). Launched in 1998, its aim is to document, preserve, sustain and share tangible and intangible cultural heritage through scientific methods.
The journal promotes an understanding of, and facilitates the transmission of, humanity’s shared cultural values by publishing studies in archaeology, cultural heritage, art history, anthropology, and related disciplines. A wide range of content is considered for evaluation, including material remains, cultural landscapes, oral traditions, traditional knowledge systems, rituals, and beliefs. In this context, inventory studies and documentation efforts are encouraged, and publications adhering to the principles of scientific validity and the proper use of sources are supported.
Adherence to academic ethical principles and open science is upheld in all processes. The avoidance of plagiarism, transparent use of sources and research integrity are fundamental publication policies. Every published work undergoes a neutral, double-blind peer review process, with academic merit, contribution value and originality serving as the main evaluation criteria.
TÜBA is an autonomous apex body for the development and promotion of science in Türkiye. The origins of the Academy go back to the Ottoman society called the Society of Scholars, which was founded in 1851. TÜBA covers all scientific fields, which are grouped under the following three categories, basic and engineering sciences, health and life sciences, and social sciences and humanities. TÜBA is committed to contributing to the promotion of scientific research by organizing working groups, offering grants and awards, preparing, and supporting the preparation of scientific reports, as well as by collaborating with sister academies all around the world.
This journal is an important publication of the TÜBA's work. It covers the fields of archaeology.
