During the 2009 archaeological survey conducted at Toprakkale, the documentation and mapping of the Deli Halil ancient settlement situated on the Deli Halil volcanic formation was partially completed. Numerous cisterns and several round structures with cone-shaped domes were documented. A geoarchaeological examination of the volcanism and geomorphology of the region was conducted in the vicinity of the Deli Halil hill. The survey of the area continued on both sides of the Kısık Pass which connects the İskendrun plain to the Plain of Cilicia. The towns of Düziçi, Kadirli and Sumbas were surveyed while a villa rustica, some floor mosaics, a church, some olive press grinding stones, as well as numerous rock-cut tombs and necropoleis were documented
