Temel Uluslararası İlişkiler Kuramları Perspektifinden Savaş Kavramı

Year 2025, Volume: 6 Issue: 1, 84 - 108, 30.04.2025

Abstract

The Concept of War From The Perspective of International Relations Theories

Year 2025, Volume: 6 Issue: 1, 84 - 108, 30.04.2025

Abstract

This study aims to examine the concept of war, from the perspective of international relations theories. Despite the significant role of war in the International Relations literature, it has been observed that works on the concept of war are limited in the Turkish literature. Thus, this study aims to fill this gap. The work intends to serve as a guide for a more in-depth reading of the concept of war, focusing on etymological, conceptual, and theoretical discussions. The study assesses different theoretical approaches together to understand war. Starting from its etymological origins, the study defines war and then discusses the reasons why states engage in war. Subsequently, the explanations and interpretations provided by various international relations theories are evaluated in terms of their contributions to understanding the nature, causes, and international effects of war. The study aims to highlight the interactions and differences between these theories by examining each one within its own context. Using a qualitative research method and literature review, this study seeks to develop a deeper understanding of how international relations theories approach war. Ultimately, this study aims to make further conceptual and theoretical contributions to the literature on the concept of war in international relations.
