In this study, it was aimed to examine the moderating role of fear of negative evaluation in the relationship between borderline personality traits and spending as social and emotional coping. The correlational survey model research was conducted with 468 participants. The questionnaire included sociodemographic form, Borderline Personality Scale, Spending as Social and Emotional Coping Scale and Fear of Negative Evaluation Scale. The data were analyzed using SPSS v26 program. As a result of the study, it was determined that borderline personality traits had a positive and significant relationship with spending as social and emotional coping and fear of negative evaluation. On the other hand, there was a positive and significant relationship between fear of negative evaluation and spending as social and emotional coping. However, the results of the analysis did not support the or moderating role of fear of negative evaluation in the relationship between borderline personality traits and spending as social and emotional coping. The study reveals that borderline personality traits increase individuals' expenditure to cope with social and emotional difficulties and increase the fear of negative evaluation in relationships. However, fear of negative evaluation was not found to have a moderating role. This suggests that borderline personality traits are a stronger factor than fear of negative evaluation in explaining spending behavior and that fear of negative evaluation does not change the relationship between borderline personality traits and spending behavior.
