EGYPT'S BRICS MEMBERSHIP: OPPORTUNITIES AND CHALLENGES IN THE MEDITERRANEAN

Öz

This study focuses on the strategic opportunities and challenges Egypt may encounter as a member of BRICS, particularly in the Mediterranean region. Egypt's accession to BRICS holds significant importance in terms of its potential impact on global political and economic power balances. The main aim of the article is to explore how this membership might strengthen Egypt's strategic role in the Mediterranean, as well as the economic and political opportunities and threats it may face. In this context, BRICS membership is also analyzed in terms of the potential changes it could bring to Egypt's relationships with the U.S. and the West, and how this new alliance could influence Egypt's role in the global power structure. The cooperation established between BRICS countries may contribute to Egypt’s economic development goals, while the article also examines how this membership might impact Egypt’s regional policies. In particular, it delves into how economic partnerships with BRICS countries could transform Egypt’s domestic policies and its geopolitical importance in the Mediterranean. Additionally, the study discusses how Egypt's relations with the West could become more complex following its BRICS membership, raising questions about the future of its strategic partnership with the U.S. and how regional power dynamics could shift. In conclusion, Egypt’s BRICS membership could create significant changes in regional and global power balances, presenting both opportunities and challenges. From a neorealist perspective, the article evaluates Egypt's BRICS membership in terms of its impact on the anarchic structure of the international system, focusing on power struggles and the quest for strategic balance.

MISIR'IN BRICS ÜYELİĞİ: AKDENİZ'DE SUNDUĞU FIRSATLAR VE ZORLUKLAR

Öz

Bu çalışma, Mısır'ın BRICS'e üyeliğinin Akdeniz bölgesinde sunduğu stratejik fırsatlar ve karşılaşabileceği zorluklar üzerine odaklanmaktadır. Mısır’ın BRICS'e katılımı, küresel politik ve ekonomik güç dengeleri üzerindeki etkileri açısından büyük bir öneme sahiptir. Makalenin temel amacı, bu üyeliğin, Mısır'ın Akdeniz’deki stratejik rolünü nasıl güçlendireceğini, ülkenin ekonomik ve politik alanda karşılaşacağı fırsatları ve tehditleri ortaya koymaktır. Bu bağlamda BRICS üyeliği, Mısır’ın ABD ve Batı ile ilişkilerinde meydana gelebilecek olası değişiklikleri de incelemekte ve bu yeni ittifakın Mısır’ın küresel güç dengelerinde nasıl bir rol oynayabileceğini tartışmaktadır. BRICS ülkeleri arasında kurulacak olan işbirlikleri, Mısır’ın ekonomik kalkınma hedeflerine ulaşmasına katkıda bulunabilirken aynı zamanda bu üyeliğin Mısır'ın bölgesel politikalarını nasıl etkileyeceği de analiz edilmektedir. Özellikle BRICS ülkeleri ile geliştirilecek ekonomik ortaklıkların Mısır’ın iç politikalarını ve Akdeniz'deki jeopolitik önemini nasıl dönüştürebileceği üzerinde durulmuştur. Ayrıca Mısır’ın Batı ile olan ilişkilerinin bu üyelik sonrası karmaşık bir hal alacağı, ABD ile olan stratejik ortaklığın geleceği ve bölgedeki diğer aktörlerle olan dengelerin yeniden şekillenebileceği tartışılmıştır. Sonuç olarak Mısır’ın BRICS üyeliği, bölgesel ve küresel güç dengesinde önemli bir değişim yaratabileceği gibi hem fırsatlar hem de zorluklarla dolu bir süreç olarak karşımıza çıkmaktadır. Bu analizde, neorealist bir perspektiften Mısır’ın BRICS üyeliği, uluslararası sistemdeki anarşik yapıya etkileri açısından ele alınarak güç mücadelesi ve stratejik denge arayışları üzerinde durulmuştur.
