Use of Generative AI

Use of Generative AI

For Authors

Permitted Use
Author(s) may use generative AI tools (like language models) only to refine phrasing, correct grammar, or enhance clarity, not to generate substantive ideas, theoretical constructs, or analytical conclusions.

Human Oversight Required
All AI-generated text must be thoroughly reviewed, fact-checked, and revised by the author. Please note that only content submitted under your full intellectual responsibility is acceptable.

Mandatory Declaration
To enhance honesty and help readers understand where AI was applied, at the end of your manuscript (just above references), include a section such as:

“Declaration of generative AI use in writing: During preparation of this manuscript, the author(s) used [TOOL NAME] to [e.g., improve readability]. Following this, all content was reviewed and edited, and the author(s) take full responsibility for the final text.”

No AI as Author or Citable Entity
AI tools may not be listed as authors or referenced in citations. Authorship signals accountability and intellectual contribution, which AI cannot fulfill.

For Figures, Visualizations & Artwork

No AI-Generated Imagery
AI-generated images, diagrams, maps, or graphical abstracts are not allowed in submitted or published manuscripts—unless AI-generated images form part of your research method (e.g., AI-assisted spatial modeling).

Acceptable Adjustments
Standard image tweaks (e.g., brightness or contrast adjustments) are permitted only if they don't alter the substantive content. The use of AI to modify or generate images beyond this is strictly prohibited.

Method Section Disclosure
When AI is legitimately used as part of your research methodology (e.g., AI-based image segmentation), the following must be detailed in Methods:
- Tool name, version, and provider
- Precise application steps
- Clear attribution
- Raw or pre-AI images may be requested for editorial inspection.

For Reviewers

Uphold Confidentiality
Manuscripts must never be shared with or uploaded into any AI tool. Doing so risks violating author confidentiality and intellectual property

No AI in Review
Peer review must be performed solely by the human reviewer. AI cannot reliably evaluate theoretical soundness, interpretative nuance, or innovative value in tourism research.

Report AI Disclosure
If author(s) declare the use of AI in their submission, note it neutrally in your review, but ensure your critique centers on scholarly rigor and academic merit.

For Editors

Maintain Editorial Integrity
AI tools may be used in-house by publishers for tasks like similarity detection or identifying peer-review candidates, but not for content-based editorial judgment.

Transparency in Handling AI Declarations
Clear records and processes are maintained for submissions that declare the use of AI. Whether AI was used solely for language polishing or as part of the research methods is tracked.

Clarify and Enforce Guidelines
Authors must adhere to AI policies. Submissions that fail to comply (e.g., those involving undeclared AI-generated ideas or unauthorized imagery) are returned for revision.

Reporting Obligations
Any suspected misuse of AI (e.g., hallucinations, fake references) is reported to the publisher. Editors also oversee any post-publication corrections or retractions if significant AI misuse is detected.
