Kapsayıcı Erkeklik: Erkekliklerin Anlaşılmasında Dönüşen Kültürel Anlamlar, Söylemler, Tutumlar ve Teorinin Türk Kültürü Açısından İncelenmesi
Öz
Akademik bir disiplin olarak temelleri 1970’li yılların sonlarından itibaren Anglosakson dünyada atılan erkeklik çalışmaları, erkeklikleri uzun bir süre boyunca R.W. Connell’ın hegemonik erkeklik kavramsallaştırması üzerinden tartışmıştır. Diğer yandan, son zamanlarda özellikle Anglo-Amerikan toplumlarda erkekliğin değişmekte olan doğası üzerine yapılan tartışmalar bu alanda yeni bir teorik çerçeveye ihtiyaç duyulduğunu ortaya çıkarmıştır. Bu bağlamda, Eric Anderson’ın 2009 yılında ortaya koyduğu Kapsayıcı Erkeklik Teorisi (KET) böylesi bir ihtiyaca yanıt olarak ortaya çıkmış ve uluslararası literatürde yaygın olarak kullanılmaya başlamıştır. Ulusal erkeklik çalışmaları literatüründe ise kapsayıcı erkeklik kavramsallaştırmasına dayanan araştırmaların sayısı yok denecek kadar azdır. Buradan hareketle, bu çalışma Kapsayıcı Erkeklik Teorisini Türkçe erkeklik çalışmaları literatürüne tanıtmayı ve onu eleştirel bir bakış açısıyla incelemeyi amaçlamaktadır. Bu doğrultuda ilk olarak, teorinin onu ortaya atan teorisyenden bağımsız olarak değerlendirilemeyeceği düşüncesinden hareketle, Eric Anderson’ın çalışma alanları hakkında genel bilgiler verilmiş, devamında ise kapsayıcı erkekliğin teorik dayanak noktaları sunulmuştur. Daha sonra ise Kapsayıcı Erkeklik Teorisinin temel savları ve teorinin gelişimi üzerinde durulmuştur. Çalışmanın sonunda teoriye getirilen eleştirilere yer verilmiş ve Türkiye’deki erkeklik çalışmaları literatürüne ilişkin birtakım yönlendirmelerde bulunulmuştur. Kapsayıcı Erkeklik Teorisinin, erkekliğin değişen ve dönüşen doğasını anlamak ve açıklamak üzere işlevsel bir teorik çerçeve sunduğu ve mevcut çalışmanın da bu bağlamda literatüre önemli bir katkı sağladığı düşünülmektedir.

Inclusive Masculinity: The Changing Cultural Meanings, Discourses, and Attitudes in Understanding Masculinities and an Investigation of the Theory through Turkish Culture

Abstract: Having been established as an academic discipline in the Anglo-Saxon world since the late 1970s, masculinity studies have discussed masculinities through R.W. Connell's conceptualization of hegemonic masculinity for a long time. On the other hand, recent discussions on the changing nature of masculinity, especially in Anglo-American societies, have revealed the need for a new theoretical framework. In this context, Eric Anderson's Inclusive Masculinity Theory (IMT), put forward in 2009, emerged as a response to this need and has become widely used in the international literature. In the national masculinity studies literature, however, the number of studies on inclusive masculinity is almost non-existent. Therefore, this study aims to introduce the IMT to the Turkish masculinity studies literature and critically examine it. First, based on the idea that a theory cannot be evaluated independently of the theorist who proposed it, general information about Eric Anderson's fields of study is provided. Then, the theoretical foundations of inclusive masculinity are presented. Later, the main arguments of the IMT and its development are highlighted. At the end of the study, theory’s criticisms are presented and some directions are given regarding the literature on masculinity studies in Türkiye. It is believed that the IMT offers a functional theoretical framework to understand and explain the changing nature of masculinity and that the current study makes an important contribution to the literature in this context.
