Öz

In every period of Uzbek literature, which is the continuation of Chagatai Turkish, various works on different subjects were produced, and especially the translations of mesnevis written in Persian literature have formed an important tradition in this literature. Some of these works were also performed by Uzbek poets living in the Ottoman Empire. In this study, the Ra’nâ vü Zîbâ mesnevi, a translated work written in Uzbek Turkish in the Ottoman Empire in the 19th century, is discussed. This mesnevi is actually based on one of the stories written by Berhurdâr bin Mahmûd Türkmen Ferâhî, a Turkmen origin munshi, to be told in gatherings in the 17th century. Ferâhî collected the love stories in a collection and over time added the stories to it, calling it Mahfil-Ârâ, and later added new stories and completed his work with the name Mahbûbü’l-kulûb. The mesnevi that we will examine in our study is the Uzbek Turkish translation of Ra’nâ vü Zîbâ, one of the Persian stories in Ferâhî’s collection Mahfil-Ârâ. There is no information about the translator of this mesnevi, which has not been the subject of any scientific study to date, other than the information in the section on the reason for writing and the supplication of the sultan of the century. The translator, who presented his pen name as Hatayi, stated that he came to the Ottoman territory and wrote during the reign of Sultan II. Abdulhamid Khan (1842-1918). In our study, we tried to present information about the two copies of the work that we have and its content to the attention of researchers.
