MONITORING CIVIL SOCIETY ORGANIZATIONS’ CLIMATE CRISIS COMMUNICATION THROUGH SUSTAINABILITY REPORTS

Öz

This article aims to analyze the communication strategies of civil society organizations (CSOs) regarding the climate crisis, specifically through sustainability reports. The study focuses on the reports of CSOs that are participants of the United Nations Global Compact and assesses their contributions to the climate crisis communication within the context of the environmental dimension. By examining the sustainability reports published under the environmental heading, this research evaluates the messages CSOs convey about the climate crisis and their societal impact. The paper highlights how CSOs not only address their environmental commitments and actions but also leverage these reports to raise public awareness and influence social and policy change. Ultimately, this study underscores the role of civil society organizations in climate crisis communication and explores the effectiveness of the communication techniques employed in their sustainability reports in fostering broader societal engagement with the climate issue.

SİVİL TOPLUM KURULUŞLARININ İKLİM KRİZİ İLETİŞİMİNİ SÜRDÜRÜLEBİLİRLİK RAPORLARI ÜZERİNDEN İZLEMEK

Öz

Bu makale, iklim krizine yönelik küresel çabaların önemli bir parçası olan sivil toplum kuruluşlarının (STK) iletişim stratejilerini, özellikle sürdürülebilirlik raporları üzerinden incelemeyi amaçlamaktadır. Çalışma, Birleşmiş Milletler Küresel İlkeler Sözleşmesi'ne (Global Compact) katılım gösteren sivil toplum kuruluşlarının çevre başlığı altında yayınladıkları raporları analiz ederek, iklim krizi ile ilgili duyurdukları mesajları ve bu mesajların toplumsal etkilerini değerlendirmektedir. STK'ların çevreye yönelik taahhütlerini, eylemlerini ve bu konudaki iletişim biçimlerini inceleyen makale, sürdürülebilirlik raporları aracılığıyla iklim krizinin toplumsal farkındalık yaratma potansiyeline odaklanmaktadır. Çalışma, STK'ların bu raporlar aracılığıyla yalnızca çevresel etkilerini değil, aynı zamanda toplumsal değişim ve politikaların şekillendirilmesine katkı sağlama çabalarını da gözler önüne sermektedir. Makale, çevre ve iklim krizinin ele alınmasında sivil toplum kuruluşlarının rolünü vurgulayarak, bu kuruluşların raporlarında kullanılan iletişim tekniklerinin etkilerini ortaya koymaktadır.
