Congratulations to the authors for their effort(1). As noted by the authors, postpericardiotomy syndrome (PPS) is a frequent complication after open heart surgery, increasing morbidity and mortality.
Maranta et al. reported a PPS rate of 15%-30% in their newly published literature review (2). Lehto et al. (3) reported PPS of 550 (2.46%) in 22373 disease studies, and Imazio et al. (4) reported 54 (15%) PPS in case series of 360 patients. In this article, the authors reported 132 (57.89%) PPS in their case series of 228 patients. We believe that this difference with the literature should be explained, or at least discussed.
