This study examines the relationships between self-compassion, sleep quality, and depression levels among elite athletes. A total of 292 elite athletes participated in the study, and data were collected using a random sampling method. The Self-Compassion Scale, Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index, and DASS-21 Scale were employed to measure participants' levels of self-compassion, sleep quality, and depression. Utilizing a relational survey model, the data were analyzed through correlation and multiple regression analyses. The results indicated that self-compassion significantly affects both depression and sleep quality. Findings revealed a moderate and significant negative correlation between self-compassion and depression levels (r = -0.319, p < 0.001), as well as a low and significant negative correlation between self-compassion and sleep quality (r = -0.223, p < 0.001). Additionally, a significant positive correlation was observed between sleep quality and depression levels (r = 0.450, p < 0.001). According to the multiple regression analysis, 25.3% of the total variance in depression was explained by self-compassion and sleep quality variables (R² = 0.253, p < 0.001). In conclusion, self-compassion was found to be a protective factor that reduces depression and enhances sleep quality. It is recommended to develop programs promoting self-compassion to support athletes' psychological well-being and mitigate issues related to depression and sleep disturbances. Self-compassion practices are considered a critical skill that not only supports athletes' performance but also strengthens their mental health.
