This study aims to examine the impact of phubbing behavior on individuals’ levels of social connectedness and the experience of loneliness within close relationships. The growing impact of mobile technologies on social relationships highlights the importance of examining the dynamics among phubbing, social connectedness, and loneliness in close relationships from a research perspective. Specifically, the mediating role of social connectedness in the relationship between phubbing and loneliness in close relationships was assessed. The study sample consisted of 406 participants (218 women, 188 men) aged between 18 and 48 from various regions across Turkey. Data were collected through an online survey and analyzed using SPSS 26.0. Independent Samples t-Test, One-Way ANOVA, Pearson Correlation Analysis, and Hierarchical Regression Analysis were conducted. The findings revealed that the variables of social connectedness, phubbing, and loneliness in close relationships significantly differed across certain demographic factors. Regression analyses indicated that social connectedness negatively predicted both phubbing and loneliness in close relationships, while phubbing positively predicted loneliness. Furthermore, social connectedness was found to partially mediate the relationship between phubbing and loneliness in close relationships.
