“Snow Piercer” Movie and The Age of Radical ‘Transformation’: ‘New World’ Order Following ‘Industrialization’

Yıl 2025, Sayı: 14, 106 - 135, 27.06.2025

Öz

This study examines Snowpiercer (2013) in the context of the New World Order that emerged after industrialization. Industrialization and its various causes and consequences have dramatically transformed human history and trade. It has significantly altered labor relations and the balance between production and consumption, laying the groundwork for establishing new economic and political systems. The discovery of the steam engine at the beginning of the 19th century and its implementation in factories and production marked a significant change in society, indicating that life would never be the same again. Therefore, it is appropriate to view this period as a turning point in human history within the context of 'change' and 'transformation.' This radical transformation and its consequences have also attracted the interest of cinema as an academic discipline. To put it in another way, cinema gives the audience the opportunity to contemplate social, economic, political, and historical issues with 'implicit' and 'explicit' messages whilst it entertains them.
