Interview

ViraVerita E-Journal focuses on theoretical and applied research produced in the fields of philosophy and the social sciences. Embracing an interdisciplinary perspective, it aims to publish scholarly works that offer original and transformative contributions to these disciplines.

Each issue is structured around a thematic focus selected by the editorial board, aiming to strengthen the link between academic works and contemporary debates. Thematic issues that prioritize interdisciplinary intersections and critical thinking in philosophy and the social sciences feature original scholarly contributions.

The journal publishes research articles, translations, critical essays, reviews, book evaluations, and interviews. Submissions that fall outside the announced theme are also considered for review. Except for interviews, all submissions undergo a double-blind peer review process and are evaluated by at least two referees.

ViraVerita E-Journal adopts an interdisciplinary editorial approach. Within this framework, it seeks to publish theoretical and applied studies situated at the intersection of philosophy, sociology, political science, communication studies, psychology, and law.

ViraVerita E-Journal adopts the APA 7 citation style as its standard and requires that all submitted manuscripts be prepared in accordance with this format. Apart from the key points outlined below, the official APA 7 website should be consulted for detailed guidance on the citation and reference system, the use of tables and figures, endnote formatting, and the structure of the reference list.

Manuscripts submitted to the journal must be formatted according to the ViraVerita E-Journal template and uploaded to the DergiPark system in that format. The template file should be consulted for detailed formatting specifications.

Formatting: Manuscripts—including abstract and references—must be between 4,000 and 20,000 words in length and prepared using Microsoft Word with Calibri Light font and 1.5 line spacing. Paragraph spacing should be the same as line spacing. The main body of the text, including block quotations, should be set in 11-point font size, while other sections of the manuscript (such as the abstract, tables, references, and endnotes) should be in 10-point font size.

Abstract: Both the Turkish and English abstracts must be between 150 and 200 words in length and include five keywords. Abstract texts should be written in Calibri Light, 10-point font size, with 1 line spacing, and should be justified.

Headings:
A maximum of four levels of headings should be used in the manuscript. The formatting for each level is as follows:
• Main Title (Title Above the Abstracts):

TITLE IN THE LANGUAGE OF THE ARTICLE:
All uppercase – bold – 16 pt – right-aligned.

TITLE IN THE OTHER LANGUAGE:
All uppercase – 14 pt – right-aligned.

Article Main Title:
Title at the beginning of the article. Capitalize the first letter of each word – bold – 14 pt – centered

FIRST LEVEL HEADING:
Main section titles within the text, including introduction, conclusion, and references.
All uppercase– bold – 11 pt – left-aligned.

Second-Level Heading:
Capitalize the first letter of each word – bold – 11 pt – left-aligned.

Third-level heading:
Capitalize only the first word – bold – italic – 11 pt – left-aligned.

•  i. Fourth-level heading:
Begins with numbering (i., ii., iii., etc.) – capitalize only the first word – 11 pt – left-aligned

There should be two blank lines before the Article Main Title (at the beginning of the article), and one blank line after it. For all other heading levels, leave one blank line before and after each heading. Paragraphs following all heading levels should be left-aligned, while other paragraphs should begin with a tab indent. For detailed formatting of titles, abstracts, and overall structure, authors should consult the journal’s template file.

Tables and Figures: Tables and figures should be placed in the appropriate location within the text. Each table and figure must be explicitly referenced in the manuscript. The formatting and presentation of tables and figures should follow the official APA 7 guidelines. For detailed instructions, authors should consult the journal’s template. Each table and figure should be assigned a number (e.g., Table 1, Table 2; Figure 1, Figure 2) in 10-point, bold, and left-aligned font. Following the table or figure number, there should be 6 pt of spacing (equivalent to double line spacing) before the title. Titles should be written in 10-point, italic, left-aligned font, with the first letter of each major word capitalized. Any notes related to the table or figure should appear below it, written in 10-point font, and formatted so that the text does not extend beyond the boundaries of the table or figure.

Endnotes: According to APA 7 writing style, the use of footnotes and endnotes in academic manuscripts is generally discouraged. However, when necessary, explanatory notes should be provided as endnotes rather than footnotes. These endnotes should be kept to a minimum in number and should be as concise as possible.

In-Text-Citations: According to the official APA 7 website, the basic rules for in-text citation are outlined below. For additional guidance on citation practices, the official APA 7 website should be consulted. In-text citations may appear either as narrative citations or parenthetical citations:

• Secondary sources may be cited only when the original source is inaccessible—for example, if the original publication is out of print or unavailable, or if the work is in a language that the author cannot read. In such cases, the following rules should be followed when referencing a secondary source:

•If the author and year of the original source are known;
According to Foucault (1991) … (as cited in Bernauer, 2005).
(Foucault, 1991, as cited in Bernauer, 2005, pp. 57-58).

•If the year of the original (primary) source is unknown:
Allport’un günlüğü (as cited in Nicholson, 2003, pp. 70-79).

• When citing multiple works by the same author published in the same year, the sources should be distinguished by lowercase letters:

If citing multiple works by the same author, list the sources in chronological order:
    •Narrative citation:
Gutiérrez (2012, 2017)
    •Parenthetical citation:
(Mouffe, 2008a, 2008b, 2019)

• The same rules apply to edited volumes. The abbreviation “Ed.” is not included in in-text citations.

• For theses and dissertations, citation follows the same rules as for single-author works.

• For translated works, use the original publication date, followed by the translation date:
Narrative citation:
Barthes (1970/1996)
Parenthetical citation:
(Barthes, 1970/1996)

• If the author is unknown and the work is signed as “Anonymous”, use “Anonymous” as the author:
Narrative citation:
Anonymous (2017)
Parenthetical citation:
(Anonymous, 2017, p. 1)

• If there is no known author or editor, use the title of the work in place of the author’s name:
Narrative citation:
Leylâ ile Mecnun (2014)
Parenthetical citation:
(Leylâ ile Mecnun, 2014, p. 67)

References and In-Text Citations for Different Source Types:
Sources cited within the text must be listed at the end of the manuscript under the heading REFERENCES, which should appear in bold, all capital letters, left-aligned, and 11-point font size. The reference list must begin on a new page.

Research and Publication Ethics
ViraVerita E-Journal adheres to the ethical principles established by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) in its publication practices. In cases of misconduct or violations of publication ethics, the journal follows the COPE flowcharts as a reference for resolving ethical issues.

In addition to these international standards, ViraVerita E-Journal is committed to complying with the provisions of the Law on Intellectual and Artistic Works (No. 5846) and the principles outlined in the Scientific Research and Publication Ethics Directive of the Council of Higher Education (YÖK) in Turkey.

The publisher, editors, issue editors, members of the editorial board, reviewers, and authors are all obliged to comply with these adopted ethical principles and relevant guidelines.

1. ViraVerita E-Journal upholds freedom of expression under all circumstances; however, it reserves the right to reject any submission that includes discriminatory or hate speech of any kind, without initiating the publication process.
2. Manuscripts submitted to ViraVerita E-Journal must be original and must not have been previously published, submitted for consideration, or scheduled for publication in any other journal.
3. Similarity reports for all submissions to ViraVerita E-Journal are generated during the file upload process using the plagiarism detection software intihal.net provided by DergiPark. Based on these reports, the acceptable similarity threshold, excluding references and footnotes, is set at a maximum of 10%. For works derived from theses or dissertations, the acceptable similarity threshold is set at 20%. While the specified similarity thresholds are not treated as absolute criteria for the editors, they reserve the right to reject a submission or request revisions if any issues related to plagiarism or excessive similarity are identified at any stage of the editorial or peer review process.
4. Authors are responsible for citing all sources that have influenced the development of the ideas expressed in their work and contributed to the study. Accordingly, the reference list must be complete, and the manuscript must not contain any form of plagiarism or fabricated data. Authors are also required to obtain permission from the individuals and/or institutions concerned before including any information obtained through personal communication. When documentation of such permission is not required, it must be explicitly stated in a footnote that permission was obtained. Information obtained without the necessary approvals or permissions must not be used in the manuscript.
5. Authorship must be limited to individuals who have made a genuine contribution to the submitted manuscript. Listing individuals who have not actively contributed to the work constitutes a serious breach of publication ethics. If such a violation is identified at any stage of the editorial process, the manuscript will be rejected immediately. In cases where the article has already been published, a formal notice of ethical misconduct will be issued in the following issue of the journal. Accordingly, no requests to add or remove authors, or to change the order of authorship, will be accepted after the submission of the manuscript.
6. Authors are required to disclose any grants, funding, or other forms of financial support received during the preparation of the manuscript. This disclosure must be made at the time of submission and communicated to the editorial team. Transparency regarding financial support is essential to uphold the integrity of the publication process.
7. In retrospective studies, permission must be obtained from the copyright holders for the use of any scales, questionnaires, or photographs belonging to others, and this must be explicitly stated in the manuscript. Additionally, copyright regulations must be adhered to for any intellectual or artistic works used in the study.
8. Authors must disclose any potential conflicts of interest or any aligning interests to the editors of ViraVerita E-Journal.
9. For studies involving field research, authors must state in the submitted manuscript that ethics committee approval has been obtained from the relevant institution(s) and must upload the approval document to the submission system. Ethics committee approval is required for the following types of research:

    • Qualitative or quantitative studies that involve data collection from participants through surveys, interviews, focus groups, observations, experiments, or similar interactive methods
Studies involving human participants, human-derived materials, or human data for experimental or scientific research purposes.
